Easter weekend is here, and there's plenty happening across Rockdale and Newton counties. Whether you're looking for family-friendly fun, a local market, or something a little different, here are three things worth getting off the couch for this weekend.
1. Rockdale County Easter Extravaganza — Saturday, April 4
Rockdale County is throwing a free Easter Extravaganza on Saturday, April 4, from noon to 3 p.m. at Legion Fields, 1260 Main Street NE, Conyers. There will be music, food, and games. Kids are encouraged to bring their own basket — the egg hunt kicks off at 1 p.m. Admission is free, so there's no reason not to come out and enjoy it.
2. Covington Garden Faire & Market — Saturday, April 4
Over in Newton County, the Covington Garden Faire & Market gets underway Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at 1177 Reynolds Street in Covington. It's a great way to kick off a spring Saturday, especially with Easter weekend bringing warmer weather. If you haven't explored downtown Covington lately, this is a good excuse to do it.
3. Visit the Monastery of the Holy Spirit — Saturday or Sunday
This one is easy to overlook, but Easter weekend is one of the best times to visit the Monastery of the Holy Spirit right here in Conyers. The monastery is home to Cistercian monks and welcomes visitors of all faiths. The grounds include a prayer walk, an abbey store and café, and the abbey church itself — a peaceful and meaningful stop on what is, for many, the most significant weekend of the year. The monastery is located at 2625 Hwy 212 SW, Conyers. Call ahead at (770) 483-8705 to confirm weekend hours.
