A Conyers Resident Is Organizing a Quiet Walk for Civility — No Speeches, No Politics, Just Presence

On April 11, a Conyers resident wants neighbors to do something simple: show up.

Anna-Marie McLeod is organizing the Community Peace Walk: Conyers, a nonpartisan community walk set for April 11, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. The walk begins at Travis Street and Green Street in Conyers and ends at Rockdale Career Academy. Parking is available across the street.

McLeod describes the event as an individual, community-led effort with no organizational or political affiliation behind it.

"I wanted to create a space where neighbors can show up peacefully, even if they disagree," she told me. "There's been a lot of tension, and this is a simple way to bring people back to basic civility."

The format is intentionally stripped down. There are no speeches, no party messaging, and no signs attacking anyone. Participants are encouraged to bring a sign that expresses something personal — not political. The flyer offers examples: "Nurse." "Uncle." "Business Owner." "Peace Begins With Us."

McLeod said she is not setting a target attendance number. "It's intentionally small and simple," she said. "Whoever feels called to show up peacefully is welcome. Even a small number of people — especially with different views — showing up respectfully is a success."

When asked about city permits, McLeod said the walk is being kept within guidelines for a small, non-obstructive gathering.

She was clear about what the walk is not. "This isn't about politics or changing anyone's views," she said. "It's about showing up with respect. No speeches, no hostility. Just presence."

McLeod also signaled this is not a one-time event, saying she plans to continue the walk in the future.

Her closing words summed up the intention plainly: "We can't keep repeating the same patterns and expect different results. It's time for a more nuanced, thoughtful approach, with greater awareness of how we actually live together."
